Womens Climbing and yoga weekend
smith rock, Oregon
September 29th - October 1st
Join us for a weekend of rock climbing and yoga with Professional rock climber and master yoga teacher olivia hsu
An elite level climber who has spent over half of her life defying gravity, Olivia Hsu found yoga to be the perfect compliment to climbing, cultivating focus and flexibility on both the mental and physical levels. She has studied Ashtanga for nearly two decades and has been studying continuously with Richard Freeman and Tim Miller for over a decade. Being an elite level athlete she has been able to find the delicate balance between practice and training and understands the myriad ways in which yoga complements doing what you love.
Olivia has appeared on the cover of magazines such as Yoga Journal and Rock and Ice, and written about yoga for climbers in publications such as Yoga Journal, Climbing, Back Packer Magazine, and featured in Mantra Magazine and Elephant Journal, among others.
Check in will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday and we will be saying our goodbyes at 6:30p.m. on Sunday evening.
Over the weekend we will spend two 8 hour sessions climbing at Smith Rock. We will separate the group so that each climber has the opportunity to choose their own challenge - providing opportunities for women to go climb splitter cracks in the Lower Gorge or try their hand at dancing on the volcanic tuff in the main park.
Throughout the weekend we will set aside time to touch on some of the curriculum we cover at our clinics from crack climbing technique and leading trad to overcoming the mental aspects of leading.
In the morning and in the evening after climbing, Olivia will hold yoga classes. Olivia’s classes are rooted in cultivating mindfulness that flows from a focused and continuous asana practice be it in the yoga shala or climbing on the crag. Her unique understanding of the nuances within both disciplines enables her to build flexibility, stamina, strength, and awareness in her students while reaching new experiential summits and full body freedom.
She Moves Mountains Guides and Co-founders, Lizzy VanPatten and Carey deVictoria-Michel will be the guides for the rock climbing activities for the weekend. Lizzy and Carey are AMGA certified Single Pitch Instructors and certified as Wilderness First Responders.
Professional climber, Olivia Hsu will bring her expansive rock experience to coach climbers through the weekend. Your guides will work to bring instruction that is fit to the women attending. We will focus on skills in sport climbing, trad climbing, crack climbing, or wherever your ambitions lie.
